Characters

Your character is not a good person. This page contains an overview of all playable characters that populate Dumpster Pyre: the Masquerade. Each character features a high concept, a gender, several negative traits or content warnings, and a short character introduction.

One of the themes of Dumpster Pyre is homophobia. Since not all characters are gendered, it is not possible for us to determine prior to casting which are in gay relationships and may therefore encounter homophobia.

The character’s gender does not need to match your own, so long as you play the part in an immersive and tasteful fashion. All characters in Dumpster Pyre: the Masquerade are cisgender. We believe that this larp has such strong phobic themes that introducing trans characters means introducing transphobia, and we do not wish for this to be one of the themes of the larp. The organizers do not believe they can do the theme of transphobia justice and include it in a tasteful way. Therefore, the organizers believe that including trans characters would result in a less safe, comfortable and tasteful game for both cis and trans players. It should go without saying that none of the above implies that trans people did not exist in 1999.

The Toxic Positivist (M/F)

Authority – Ignoring problems – Power abuse

The Toxic Positivist is one of the Vampire Masters at Vampire Woensel. They see the good in everyone, even if it isn’t there. By refusing to acknowledge bad behaviour from their position of authority, misconduct is enabled and victims go unhelped. Everything they do is a textbook example of toxic positivity.

The Fanfic Writer (M/F)

Obliviousness – Cult of personality – Pushiness

The Fanfic Writer is the lorekeeper of Vampire Woensel. They are a stereotype nerd without self-reflection regarding their pushiness. They meddle with the background of other characters because they do not recognise that other people deserve to have more control over their own characters than they do.

The Social Parasite (M)

False pretenses – Crossing boundaries – Sexual misconduct

The Social Parasite presents himself as a photographer, and frequently takes photos at Vampire Woensel without consent. He sees himself as the only “normal” person in a herd of socially maladapted nerds. The Social Parasite considers everyone responsible for setting their own boundaries and believes they deserve the consequences of not doing so. However, he goes to Vampire Woensel because people there do not protect their own boundaries. He feels free to use that to expand his collection of ‘tasteful’ nudes.

The New Hot Girl (F)

Manipulation – Power-hungry – Shameless

The New Hot Girl is the new hot girl at Vampire Woensel. She is massively horny for attention and knows very well what she is doing. It is not her problem if the attention is to the detriment of the ones giving it. If she stops being the centre of attention, she is more than willing to use the boys around her to pull all the eyes right back to her.

The Previous Hot Girl (F)

Cult of personality – Jealousy – Revenge

The Previous Hot Girl was the new hot girl until someone newer and hotter joined. She has just hit a brick wall. Her identity is based on a youthfulness which she is losing. She always wants to be the most desirable girl in the room, jealously defending that position from anyone threatening it. She has recently realised that she has been knocked off her throne and is out for revenge.

The Personality Cult Leader (M/F)

Cult of personality – Power abuse – Fame – Drug abuse

The Personality Cult Leader is a Vampire Master as well as leader of a cult of personality at Vampire Woensel. Before joining Vampire, the Personality Cult Leader was basically a decent person. But a cult of personality has grown around them. These people have been singing the Personality Cult Leader’s praises so much that the Leader has started to drink their own kool-aid.

The Fallen Prince (M/F)

Jealousy – Spite – Power struggle

The Fallen Prince is the previous Prince and former Vampire Master at Vampire Woensel.

They have an uninteresting life and take their frustrations with that situation out on Vampire Woensel, where they at least seem to count for something. Even there they seem to be losing control and this manifests itself as petty and spiteful salty behaviour.

The Accidental Prince (M/F)

Power struggle – Impossible obligations – Condescension

The Accidental Prince is, since recently, the Prince and a Vampire Master at Vampire Woensel. The Accidental Prince is their own biggest enemy. They promise too much and deliver too little, getting stuck in a swamp of half-finished projects. They have an ever-growing list of people impatiently waiting on the things the Accidental Prince so confidently promised them. They are excellent at identifying the mistakes of others. However, as a response the Accidental Prince tries to take over the work of others, not recognising they are worse at it than the person they are trying to replace.

The Sugar Daddy (M)

Desperation – Rejection – Loneliness – Strongly homophobic

The Sugar Daddy is a show-off. He looks at people in the same way he looks at things: through a lens of value and status. He wants to be valued for who he is and not his money, however the only way he knows to socialise is by throwing money around. He has been trying to break this cycle and tries this in an increasingly desperate but wrong manner.

The Sugar Babe (F)

Misandry – Cult of Personality – Hypocrisy – Pretenses

The Sugar Babe is a show-off. She is a misandrist with a sugar daddy: a mindset and a lifestyle that are in conflict with each other. The Sugar Babe has been in denial for years, because the moment she changes either of them her life collapses. The way in which she twists herself to keep the status quo only worsens things.

The Would-Be Saviour (M/F)

Cult of Personality – Drug abuse – Self-sacrifice

The Would-Be-Saviour is an outcast of their own making. They have an impulsive hero complex. They start rescue actions and take up responsibilities without thinking. While they assume everyone knows their good intentions, the Would-Be Saviour does not communicate them. Their behaviour is extremely egoistical: they want to help so that they help, not so that the other party is helped.

The Out-Of-Touch Founder (M)

Aging – Overcommitment – Consequences of sexual assault

The Out-Of-Touch Founder was instrumental in the start of Vampire Woensel. He is clearly the one who made Vampire Woensel possible in the first place, but has not been relevant for years. He thinks of himself as a subtle manipulator, who successfully steers Vampire Eindhoven back to its old glory. In reality, very few people actually listen to him, nobody but him even calls Vampire Woensel “Vampire Eindhoven” anymore. Vampire Woensel has long outgrown its founder.

The Rules Lawyer (M/F)

Provocation – Obnoxiousness – Stubbornness

The Rules Lawyer is one of the murderhobos at Vampire Woensel. They cannot distinguish between what is right and what is allowed: if it is permitted by rules it is ethical, and vice versa. Sadly, the rules of vampire are totally unsuitable as behavioural rules which means the Rules Lawyer performs unacceptable behaviour despite the best intentions.

The One-Upper (M/F)

Insecurity – Unavoidable consequences – Obnoxiousness

The One-Upper is one who arranges Vampire Woensel’s venue. They are the biggest tag-along of Vampire Woensel and tries to be the loudest person in the room to hide his insecurity. He continuously compares himself to others. If opposed he only becomes louder in order to prove himself. Their goal is attention and recognition. It is not a heated argument, it is a competition and the contents of the discussion do not matter as long as they are deemed to be in the right.

The Dominatrix (M/F)

Oversexedness – Insecurity – Unhealthy relationships

The Dominatrix feels insecure and has made BDSM their identity as a coping mechanism. They have a nasty habit of showcasing this everywhere they go regardless of appreciation or consent. They seek out sexual relations, while being completely oblivious to the interpersonal relations that come along with them. The Dominatrix doesn’t see the damage they cause to the people around them.

The Obsessed Ex-Lover (M/F)

Conflicting loyalties – Toxic relationships – Internal contradictions

The Obsessed Ex-Lover is a little sad. They feel entitled to how they have been living. When this situation is threatened by adversity, the Obsessed Ex-Lover obsessively tries to claw themselves back into their comfort zone. Everything is collapsing around them and they are unable to let go of any of it, especially their recently ended relationship. They do not have an answer to their problems. The Obsessed Ex-Lover will try to hold onto everything, even if this results inevitably in losing it all.

The Religious Hypocrite (M)

Internal contradiction – Strong homophobia – Inevitable failure – Drug abuse

The Religious Hypocrite is exactly that: a deeply Christian Bible thumper and drug addict; a larper who considers all larpers immoral homosexual sinners; a principled man constantly making exceptions for himself. He is tearing himself apart more and more and he is reaching his limit. Although he does not know it, his goals are literally impossible to achieve all at once, and he would rather destroy himself than give up on any of them.

The Eccentric Pervert (M)

Power abuse – Sexual misconduct – Sexism

The Eccentric Pervert knows he’s too firmly nested in Vampire Woensel’s social network to be kicked out. What are they going to do about it? He strives for his goals without a sense of shame and he does not mince words on what those goals are: women.

The Superficial Spiritualist (M/F)

Consequences of sexual assault – Self-sanctity – Drug abuse – Strongly homophobic

Many see the Superficial Spiritualist as the mother figure of Vampire Woensel. They are someone with an unrealistic view of the world which clashes with the world around them. They cannot imagine that another viewpoint on the issue of ethics and morality other than their own could ever be correct. Encountering opposition, which happens regularly, only validates them.

The Eternal Victim (F)

Consequences of sexual assault – Internal contradiction – Paranoia – Masks

The Eternal Victim has recently experienced a situation bordering on sexual assault after being a long-time participant at Vampire Woensel. She has always been someone who wears a metaphorical “mask” to cover her real self and protect her self-image from hurt and judgement. Her lack of genuine social connections causes her to slip into paranoia and victimhood. Although she just wants this recent situation to go away, she is approaching the situation like her vampire would: assertively and explosively. This is making things worse right now.

The Toxic Casual (M/F)

Provocation – Obliviousness – Dismissiveness

The Toxic Casual is one of the murderhobos at Vampire Woensel. They are casual to a toxic degree. Vampire is just a game for them and games are not to be taken seriously. If others take the game seriously, the Toxic Casual will just kill their vampires until they lighten up a bit.

The White Knight (M)

Subservience – Rejection – Conflicting loyalties

The White Knight is a massive simp. He gives preferential treatment to women, and spinelessly tries to appease women at every turn. The White Knight doesn’t have real opinions either: he just echoes the opinions of the woman in the room that gives him the most attention. He doesn’t do this in a good or subtle manner. What he is doing is painfully obvious to everyone except himself.

The Agitator (M/F)

Preachiness – Subservience – Extreme viewpoints – Unhealthy relationships

The Agitator is the new submissive slave of the Dominatrix. Also, paradoxically, the leader of the leftist group at Vampire Woensel. The Agitator tries to make everything political, often at the most unsuitable of times. Give them an opportunity to speak and they will take it. Concede a point and they will take it. The Agitator does not understand, or not care about, the fact that the people around them are annoyed by this.

The Party Animal (M)

Unhealthy relationships – Drug abuse – Provocation

The Party Animal is fun to be around, but in an incredibly shallow way. He chooses to actively underestimate the severity of all the problems around him. He believes that everything will be okay in the end because everyone will agree with and accept him as long as he remains acting nice on a surface-level. He never considers himself to be at fault: if he’s having fun, everyone should be having fun (and if they aren’t they’re just stuck-up buzzkills). Chief example of this is his heavy drug use.

The Delusional (M/F)

Insanity – Violence – Drug abuse – Revenge porn

The Delusional is a threat to Vampire Woensel and society as a whole. They genuinely believe they are a vampire, and attempt to act accordingly. The Delusional’s worldview is fundamentally inverted: their identity outside of Vampire Woensel is a mask, and the Vampire is who they consider their true self. The Delusional has become good enough at living this lie that reality no longer forces them to face the cognitive dissonance.
